What this site collects.
Plainly, with nothing left out. This is a personal portfolio, not a product — there are no ads, no advertising networks, no trackers belonging to anyone else, and nothing here is sold or shared. Last updated September 16, 2026.
Why I collect it
To understand which work people actually spend time on, where they arrive from, and whether the site performs well on real devices. I read it in aggregate to decide what to build and write next. It is not used to advertise to you, to build a profile for anyone else, or to make any decision about you.
What is collected
Visit
- A random visitor ID stored in your browser, plus a count of how many times you've visited
- Landing page, exit page, entry URL, referrer, and any utm_* campaign parameters
- Time on page, session duration, scroll depth, which sections came into view, how many links you clicked, and tab switches
Device & browser
- Device type, browser, operating system, user agent
- Screen and viewport size, pixel ratio, touch support
- CPU core count, device memory, GPU vendor and renderer
- A canvas rendering hash, the list of fonts your system has, and installed browser plugins
- Language preferences, timezone, colour scheme, reduced-motion preference
- Connection type, downlink speed, round-trip time, and page load timings
Approximate location
- City, region, country, postal code, and approximate coordinates derived from your IP address
- Your IP address and the name of your internet provider
Some of the device signals above — the canvas hash, font list and GPU renderer — combine into a value that helps tell a returning device apart from a new one. It is a one-way hash, it identifies a device rather than a person, and it is never matched against any outside source.
What I never collect
No names, no email addresses, no passwords, no payment details, and no precise GPS location — the browser location permission is never requested. Nothing you type is captured. If you send me something through the contact form, that is you choosing to share it, and it only reaches my own inbox and sheet.
Where it goes
Into a private Google Sheet that only I can open, written through a Google Apps Script endpoint. There is no analytics vendor in the path — no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, nothing that follows you to another site.
Two services do see your IP address, because deriving an approximate city from it is the one thing the browser cannot do on its own: ipwho.is and ipapi.co, used one as a fallback for the other.
How long it is kept
Analytics rows are kept for 12 months and then deleted. Messages you send me through the contact form are kept as long as the conversation is useful, and removed on request.
Opting out, and getting it deleted
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes the stored visitor ID and starts you over as a new visitor. Blocking JavaScript for this domain, or using a browser or extension that blocks scripts, stops the collection entirely — the site still works.
If you would rather I delete what has already been recorded, email me and say roughly when you visited. I will find the rows and remove them, and I will not ask you to prove anything.
